Easy Tips to Find the Correct Driving Position

Several drivers and car users severely underestimate the importance of the right driving position. A thoroughly thought after and adequately fixed driving position can let you have total control of your car and translate into a significant hindrance in your comfort level too. Many people do not realise that a good driving position can help avoid accidents while also enhancing safety in case of an accident, and at the same time also enhances the level of comfort. Here, we are going to talk about how to find the right driving position.

How to Find the Correct Driving Position

Wear the right clothing- You might find it strange, but what you wear also affects your comfort level while driving. The best driving control and comfort arrives when you are not wearing clothes that restrict you when you drive. Try to wear comfortable and light clothes. Another thing that can affect one’s driving is footwear. The shoes you wear while driving must be placed perfectly on the feet and must fit nicely over the control pedals. The right driving shoe would be something that has a thin but a dense sole. As far as pants are concerned, try to wear pants that go down to the knee. It will keep you comfortable for a long time.

Sit correctly: Sitting properly by making a square with your back and buttocks while being squeezed inside the seat is the right way to keep yourself seated in the car seat. This will help you keep backaches at bay and at the same time it will keep you aware when you drive for long hours.

Adjust the seat’s distance: The position of the seat should be adjusted according to the pedals. It would be better if you could maintain a 120-degree bent angle in the knees when you press the pedals. Keep in mind that a totally extended leg might result in knee locking, which leads to putting too much effort to operate the clutch, accelerator, and brakes. On the contrary, a knee which can bend too much can affect the blood flow. The feet must be placed in such a way that the heels are placed roughly in front of brakes.

Adjust the seat rake: The seat rake must be parallel as possible to the steering wheel. While it might be impossible to do that, but a rake of nearly 110-95 degrees in the seat would be right. Set the height, then place your wrist on the top position of the wheel, it will be a  right position if it is kept flat on the wheel and even can bend it slightly on the rim, while still keeping the shoulders against the back of the seat.

Adjust the steering distance and height: Height of the steering must be adjusted so that it is parallel to the back angle and offers a clear picture of the dashboard. Ideally, this arrangement must allow you to grip the wheel in the right way with the palms lower than the shoulders. To set the right distance, ensure that your elbows have an inclined angle of nearly 120 degrees now.

Adjust the seat height: Along with the points discussed above on how to find the right driving position, your seat’s height must ensure that you can see clearly, while still having a clear view of the dashboard, proper height related to the pedals and wheel.

Along with these, there are a few more things that you must keep in mind:

  • Wear your seat belt correctly
  • Check the visibility
  • Keep the objects inside the car low, mainly at the front
  • Adjust your rear-view mirrors for maximum visibility and minimum overlap
