Things you Should Not Do While Driving an Automatic Car

Cars are one of the greatest invention’s humanity has ever seen. The possibilities of travelling to a far-off distance in the comfort of your car are the reality that everyone wants today. As the inception of the first 4-wheel car with a motor was discovered, cars have become much better with every passing day.  Nowadays, cars are much better when it comes to mechanical abilities, driving comfort, and safety features.

While talking about the comfort of driving during the present-day urban scenario, automatic drives have pushed the limits to new opportunities. The automatic transmission is a kind of motor vehicle gear transmission that changes the gear ratios automatically as the vehicle gains acceleration. This mechanism assists the driver to move gears without doing it manually. Its internal combustion engine offers a wide range of speed and torque outputs required to move the vehicle. There are three kinds of automatic transmission available in cars today which includes Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), Dual-clutch automated manual, Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). The automatic cars demand a few driving tips so that you can enjoy a comfortable and smooth driving.

Here are a few things that you should avoid while driving an automatic car.

Driving automatic car downhill when in gear- You should never drive your automatic car downhill by putting gear. This will affect the whole control of your car. When you drive downhill on gear, you cannot accelerate in neutral mode and can slow down by using the brake pedal. Also, you must first come to halt before shifting it to the “D” to start the acceleration, which will be difficult to drive on a slope. Though, Modern-day automatic transmissions are smart enough to reduce the fuel supply to the engine while you are driving on a slope.

Moving to N when your car is in motion- You should always put your car in neutral gear when you have stopped the car. Changing to a neutral gear while moving will increase the chances of wear and tear on transmission mechanism.

Not keeping your foot on the dead pedal while driving- One of the riskiest mistakes that many drivers driving an automatic car do is to use both the right and left leg to drive. Automatic cars have two pedals. One is the accelerator and the other one is brakes.  While driving people tend to make use of their right foot in order to accelerate while left foot on the brake to stop the vehicle. This is a risky practice which could result in dangerous accidents. If by mistake, you use the accelerator and brake at the same time, the car will ultimately lose its control. To avoid, this, it will be better to keep your left foot on the dead pedal and use the right foot for both braking and acceleration.

Not parking your car in P mode- You should always park your car in “P” or parking mode. This helps to avoid your car from rolling forward or backwards if accidentally the hand brakes stop working.
